SS Ranch 77 comes alongside horses and horse lovers to improve teamwork through communication and understanding.
We provide a safe introduction to horses and non-competition horseback riding lessons. Horse lovers of all ages learn to be safe around horses and improve their skills in horsemanship both on and off the saddle.
All lessons are 60 minutes of instruction at a time unless otherwise noted. It is recommended that horse lovers attend 1 class per week to see continued improvement in their horsemanship skills.
Payment must be received 5 days before the first day of the month you are paying for, to guarantee your lesson slot. This applies to regularly scheduled monthly lessons.
Cancellations must be received 24 hours prior to the scheduled time slot for full credit. Cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled time slot will NOT be credited.
Note: We teach in all weathers (outside) so it is up to you to cancel more than 24 hours before your scheduled slot. Cancellations within 24 hours will receive no refund.

Geared toward those who are interested in learning the safe way to approach and be around horses. No riding included.

If you aren't ready to sign up for regular lessons, how about this option? For the weekend visitor to Boise, the person who wants a bit more than the Introduction, or someone hoping for a reminder of what they know before visiting a dude ranch. This standalone is entirely customizable to your needs and wants. Multiple hours available. Can include riding.
Starting at $60 for 60 minutes of private instruction

For parents who would like to give their children an early introduction to horses. The parents will be taught how to keep their child safe around horses. This class works well for children under the age of 7, especially those whose parents are also interested in horses. No prior knowledge needed for either parent or child.
$80 for 60 minutes of private instruction

For parents who would like to give their children an early introduction to horses but for whatever reason will not be involved directly. An instructor will take the parents' place, keeping the child safe around the horses. Two instructors will be 100% present for the entire lesson. No prior knowledge or experience needed.

English / Western / Australian
For students 7 and up who are just learning to ride and work around horses. This class will cover groundwork, walk, and some trot. Students will also begin learning parts of the horse and tack and be involved in various other ranch chores.

For students 7 and up who have shown competence with our beginning program. This class will cover walk, trot, and canter. Students will also learn more detail about horses and continue to be involved in various horses/ranch chores.

What is a Ranch C.A.T.T.I.?
This program works well for individuals who have a basic grasp of ranch life and are interested in working more independently.
During your 3 hours, you will:
C - Perform ranch Chores
A - Assist/help the instructor setup for lessons
T - Help Train horses
T - Assist in Tacking up horses for other lessons (when applicable)
I - Get a personal lesson for 60 minutes of private Instruction
Requirements:
1. 10 years old through adult.
2. Must have taken at least 8 lessons with SS Ranch 77 in the last 12 months.
3. Must be Caring toward horses and humans, Attentive to detail, Teachable, Team player, and Independent.
4. Please inform instructor of your interest in this program.
5. Sign-up at instructor's discretion.
STUDENTS
Helmet: All students in mounted classes are required to wear a properly fitting helmet meeting the current ASTM/SEI standard. It is recommended you replace the helmet every 5 years. We do have lesson helmets available so you can learn your size before purchasing your own. Helmets are provided at events, camps, and workshops.
Shoes or boots: All students must wear closed-toed shoes, securely attached. Mounted students are required to wear specifically shoes or boots with heels and smooth soles. The heels prevent feet from slipping through the stirrups.
Pants: All students participating in mounted classes are required to wear long pants that fit at the waist. Long pants help prevent sores on the legs.
Gloves: All students participating in classes are strongly advised to wear riding gloves.
Fingernails: Fingernails must be kept short (the whites no longer than 1/4”).
Jewelry: No dangling jewelry. It is recommended to also remove rings.
NEVER Chew gum: You could choke or bite your tongue.
OBSERVERS
Shoes: Shoes must be worn at all times. Closed-toed shoes are required in the tack and riding areas.
Jewelry: Dangling jewelry is not allowed in the tack and riding areas.
A baby horse can run within an hour of being born.
